Should I tell the boss?

I've become very unhappy at work lately. My boss is not giving me challenging
assignments as in the past. The bordom factor is kicking in bigtime.
Part of the problem, I feel, is a personality conflict between my boss
and I. He always degrades me in saying "You think differently from
what 'I' think". I returned the favor by saying "I happen to
think that diversity in ways of thinking is a good thing for a group.".
To make a longer story short, after 4 1/2 years with the company and
not much room for maneuvering, I've recently started job hunting.
Should I tell my boss that I'm searching or not? I have had interviews
(after hours or while on vacation time, never on company time). But no
solid offers yet.
Thanks in advance,
Dear Larry
Thing is, Larry, he's the boss; his way of thinking will win.
This matters, because your disagreements may color the way he views your
news.
Suppose you tell him, then your search fails, and you stay ... will your
'disloyalty' cause problems?
On the other hand, how much notice do you need to give? Do reread your
contract, then consider how he (and iothers) will react. Does their reaction
matter?
